Another Century [100] to Lusk, WY

Today we rode 110 miles from Casper to Lusk, Wyoming. We climbed 2,790 feet.

At the start today we faced a tough challenge, our second consecutive century ride. Dark gray clouds filled the sky, and the forecast called for light rains for part of the day. Headwind, naturally. These things no longer phase us, so we mounted up and got underway. We got the rain early, but we never got too cold. We had mostly mild climbs, so the only real obstacles were the mileage (immediate and cumulative) and the headwind. We paced well, rotated paceline leaders, and made our way down the road. It turned out to be a fairly routine day, just a bit longer than usual. We had some excitement at the end, when sunny skies turned dark again and we raced thunderstorms to the hotel. Both groups got wet, but it was beautiful to see the sky filled with clouds. A thrilling end to the day, and we all felt great about finishing a second century in as many days.

Wildlife sightings have been scarce, but we've seen a lot of pronghorn antelope the last few days. One rider videoed a pronghorn run parallel to the road to his left, then cut across the road and jump a fence to his right. Spectacular to see the fastest land mammal in North America in action.

Tomorrow we will ride from Lusk, Wyoming to Chadron, Nebraska. We will cycle 82 miles and climb 2,223 feet.
