Goodbye Washington. Hello Idaho!

Pat Ryan:

We cycled 101 miles and climbed 2,785 feet today. For some of our riders this was their first "century" ride, covering 100 miles in a day. We had an early start, departing Cheney, Washington at just after 0700.  The ride started out pretty fast, but we soon encountered the headwinds from yesterday, as well as some long, gradual ascents that slowed us down. We entered Idaho at mile 38, crossing the first state line of the trip. The climbing peaked at mile 44, and from there we had a sporty descent to our second SAG. Exiting the SAG, we entered the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, a beautiful 73-mile paved pathway operated by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. From there we had favorable winds and beautiful scenery the rest of the way into Kellogg, Idaho.

Tomorrow we will travel to Thompson Falls, Montana.  Only 65 miles, 3,431 feet of climbing, and the third state on our journey.
