Half Way in Miles Elevation and Days

Today we rode 104 miles from O'Neill to Wisner, Nebraska. We climbed 1,102 feet.

This morning we had a brief safety stand down prior to departure to discuss yesterday's accident. We examined the root cause, reminded ourselves of best riding practices, and stressed the need for vigilance while riding in close proximity to other riders in a group. We left the parking lot this morning shortly after 0700, escorted by local fire and police departments. Another pleasant start to the day in Nebraska, temperatures in the 50s, light winds, and clear skies. The route was pancake-flat for quite a while-we climbed less than ten feet in the first twenty miles. We finally left Highway 20, a sad moment. We spent some time on the Cowboy Trail (www.bikecowboytrail.com), a 195-mile former rail line converted to bicycle use. Not much interaction with local people today, mostly riding to get to the destination. We knocked out another century ride, got to the hotel, unloaded our gear, and ate dinner. Tomorrow is another day.

We are now over halfway in miles, elevation, and days, all significant milestones. Tomorrow we enter Iowa, our sixth state and the first of three consecutive "I-states", Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. Monday we will do our sixth century ride of the trip, the second in three days. We have momentum, let's keep it rolling.

Tomorrow we will ride from Wisner, Nebraska to Dennison, Iowa. We will cycle 98 miles and climb 3,498 feet.
